Welcome Ladies and Gentleman to the first ever Silver Star Awards. This awards show is a little different to the GRA's, different awards will be handed out at this particular show.
The first award given here today will be The New Guard Award, this is awarded to an actor, writer or director that have either made their first appearance ever at LRF or have made a return after at least 10 seasons away. This first award is given to the last vote, with the winner of the first ever New Guard Award being, The Birds director Mike Flanagan!!! Congratulations to Mike and the runner ups, Alma Ha'rel, Taylor Russell, and Nell Tiger Free.
For the next award, we will be awarding the Best Fantasy or Sci-Fi Film, this award was a clean sweep for the winner, every vote went towards it. The winner of best fantasy or sci-fi film is Excalibur, writer Roy Horne should be proud of this one.
This next one is named after a great of the film industry, The Kirk Douglas Award, this is awarded to an actor over the age of 60 with the best performance. This award goes to ... Richard Gere for his performance in Coma. A wonderful performance, and a well deserved award. The runners up for this award were, Jeremy Irons in Haunted and David Strathairn in Revelations.
Best Comedy or Musical is the next award presented her tonight. This one had a runaway winner, with No Laughing Matter clinching it. Faster, Higher, Stronger and Oklahoma were the next in line, however at the end of the voting, No Laughing Matter got it.
The Gong is awarded to an actor that had the best performance in a critically panned film, the film must fall under the 55 metacritic rating. Not many films fell under that threshold this seasonbut the winner for this one was Sienna Miller for her performance in Crush. Cristin Miloti was next in line for her turn in The Kiss Quotient. Congratulations Sienna on a great performance.
Best Superhero / Action or Adventure. Although it can be perceived as similar to the previous award of fantasy / sci-fi, this award is slightly different. The award here came down to two superhero films. Gambit & Rogue and The Fantastic Four. However the eventual winner was in fact, Gambit and Rogue. Congratulations to Chad Taylor, Alma Ha'rel and the amazing cast. Hoping to see more X-Men spin-offs down the line!
The Ledger is given to an actor that gave the best performance that is under the age of 35. This was the most difficult to find a winner and in the end there wasn't just one that we found. In the first ever Silver Star Awards we have a tie for The Ledger. The two winners of this award, this season are Elizabeth Olsen for Coma and George Mackay for his performance in Excalibur. Two very different performances to be sure, but both deserved.
For Best Drama there was a tight race to the finish line, with only two films really in the race. In the end however, McCain just got the upperhand on Heights to take the award for this one. Congrats to Dwight Gallo and the team that worked on this one.
For the penultimate award it is a very simple one, the Top 10 Films of Season 16. This was a tough one to chose, in alphabetical order; The Birds, Coma, Excalibur, Gambit and Rogue, Heights, The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches, McCain, No Laughing Matter, Oklahoma!, Revelations. Congratulations to the top 10 here. All wonderful films and there is a few others that missed out by even one vote.
Now the final award, The Quiver, this is awarded to the best writer here at LRF for the season. The criteria is that all the writers films must have received at least a 70 on metacritic. This season 3 different writers received votes, John Malone for Heights and Bunker 17, Chad Taylor for Oklahoma!, Gambit and Rogue, Fractured and No Laughing Matter and Roy Horne for Excalibur. The winner of The Quiver for Season 16 is...Chad Taylor. Congratulations Chad, well deserved.
That wraps it up for the Silver Stars Season 16, I hope it was enjoyed by all. I hope to continue this every season and, next season hopefully include more voters, than the four this season. Thanks. Now let's bring on the GRA's!!!

It is time to announce the nominees for our first award, The New Guard, this award is given to an actor, writer or director that is making their first appearance for the studio or is returning after a 10 season hiatus. This season the nominees for this particular award consist of one actress for her season that consisted of appearing in two different films, both of which making a combined profit of $414,610,434 for the studio. Appearing in The Hit Maker and Namor the Sub-Mariner in her debut season, Logan Browning is this season's first nominee for The New Guard. The next nominee is a new writer here at Last Resort Films. This writer debuted with a genre not usually seen here at LRF, Romantic Comedy. With Kylie Dates New York City, Walter McKnight is our second nominee for The New Guard. Hopefully it is the first of many films written by Walter for the studio. The next two nominees are directors of very successful films for the studio, both appearing in the DC Comics Universe. The first of these two nominees is Christopher McQuarrie, the director of the final film of the season, Green Lantern Corps. Reteaming with Tom Cruise McQuarrie was able to bring the Green Lanterns to life, and in doing so grossed over 1 billion dollars with just under $600,000,000 profit. The final nominee is the director of the strange, fantasy tale set in the Dc Comics Universe, The Sandman. Jonathan Glazer debuted with this film and it is one of the best choices the studio could have made teaming him with not only the source material but the amazing Johnny Depp. Winners will be announced tomorrow!!!

The next award is the award for Best Fantasy / Sci-Fi. The 4 nominees could not vary more than what they do. One an animated movie of a beloved character. Another a beloved series both in LRF and outside. A film about life and consequences. And a film that is one of the strangest, most interesting films adapted from a fan favourite comic book. Nominee Number 1 reunites the creators of the Booster Gold series, with Chad Taylor, Phil Lord and Chris Miller coming together to breathe new life into Super Mario. The film grossed $879,072,958, and saw the voices of Paul Rudd, John Mulaney and Rachel McAdams grace our screens as Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach. The second nominee is the 4th film in an anthology of films here at LRF. Alien: Out of the Shadows is the best received critically and earned the most money out of the series, earning $377,769,450. The film from Carl Flimmer and Rupert Wyatt continues the story from the first Alien film with Claire Foy now playing Ellen Ripley. The third nominee is a story of consequences and judgement. Coming from writer Jimmy Ellis and first time director at LRF, Laure De Clermont-Tonerre. Starring John Malkovich, Oscar Isaac and Shia Labeouf the film is the only nominee for this award to fail at the box office losing over 10 mil for the studio. The final nominee is another from Chad Taylor, this film is The Sandman. Directed by the previously nominated Jonathan Glazer and starring GRA nominee Johnny Depp, the film is a strange fantasy epic that transports its viewers to a different world. With supporting performances from Florence Pugh, John Goodman and Sam Claflin the film is a wonderful nominee for best fantasy/sci-fi. Winners announced tomorrow!!!

The Kirk Douglas Award is given to an actor over the age of 60 that delivers the performance of the season. The performances delivered by these actors have been some of the best performances delivered by anyone this season. The first nominee this season comes from one of the earlier films of the season. In The King of Hearts, Tom Hanks portrays real life heart surgeon Dr Michael DeBakey. With the help of another star in Tom Cruise, Hanks is able to elevate the already stellar screenplay and deliver one of his more grounded as well as better performances. The next nominee comes from an actor that in previous years has leant his skills to more comedic and or action films, other than H.G Hansen's The Queen of the Night. In fact his last major acting nomination came at the academy awards in 1994 for In The Line of Fire. John Malkovich, this time around stars in Jimmy Ellis and Laure De Clermont-Tonerre's " One Day More" in the role of Arthur Fordham who must face his past and suffer the consequences as he awaits trial before God. The Glass Menagerie adapted from Tennesse Williams' play is all about the performances and the best in the film goes to this actress, Susan Sarandon. Sarandon plays Amanda Wingfield, the mother of Shia Labeouf and Rooney Mara's characters. Sarandon backs up her GRA nomination for Revelations last season with this performance here. The final nominee comes from The Sandman, with John Goodman. Goodman plays Gilbert / Fiddler's Green. He delivers one of the most dramatic moments in the film and quite possibly provides the best performance in it, perhaps only outdone by the Sandman himself Johnny Depp. Although not nominated for a single acting performance at LRF, he has been apart of 2 best ensemble nominees in, Cape Torment and Calamity.

The Next award is Best Musical / Comedy, every nominee this year is from a different writer. One of the films is rated R while the other 3 are PG-13. Writers John Malone and Jimmy Ellis reunite for their 4th film and their 1st comedy. The film gives Guy Ritchie his only positively reviewed and profitable film for the studio. The ensemble cast consisting of, Colin Farrell, Jason Statham, Florence Pugh and Hugh Grant make this film entertaining to watch. The film grossed a total of $95,866,240. Winner of this award last year, writer Chad Taylor brings us the story of Frank Farian. Bale once more transforms in this role, providing a wonderful comedic performance. Craig Brewer is a veteran of films like these and he definitely delivers with this one. The supporting cast of, Stephan James, Kelvin Harrison Jr and Alicia Keys also deliver game performances out of their comfort zones. This film grossed $149,867,108. From writer Jacob Jones, Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 was critically panned and a failure at the box office, however it still manages a nomination here. It lost around 58 mil for the studio, being the biggest loser this season. Rob Marshall is now 1 for 2 at the box office for his directed films. The final nominee comes from debutant writer Walter McKnight and director Nancy Meyers. Meyers is a veteran of the Romantic Comedy genre and she manages to show her skill in this one. With a decent screenplay from the debutant this is a well deserved nomination. Witherspoon does what she can in the role and elevates the material further. Kylie Dates New York City earnt $101,389,367.

Award Number five this evening will be The Gong. The Gong is given to the best performance by an actor in a critically panned film. The film must fall below a 55 metacritic rating. All four nominees this year are male, one performance comes from a musical, one from a drama that is adapted from a novel, another a post-apocalyptic sci-fi and finally an out and out action film. Jared Leto's performance in Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 was one of only a few bright spots of that film. However, this may be due in part to him being made to stand out as the other casting was suspicious. Albeit Leto's performance in an average film is praised here with a nomination. This performance is however a far cry away from his best supporting actor performance in Femme Fatale. The next nominee is a young actor that has appeared in 4 films for the studio, all of which he would have been eligible for this award, with the highest metacritic rating being a 55. However his performances in these films have been generally well received. In All The Pretty Horses however Nicholas Hamilton is given the lead of a film for the first time. Although critics liked his performance in the film, they said that the writing let him down quite a bit. However this award is for these such performances. The next nominee is a child star that has made the leap into adult fame, his latest performance comes in Meirad Tako's latest mind-bender. Jamie Bell stars in After a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, adventure. The film is a mashup of many post-apocalyptic troupes. Bell's performance is obviously shown as a bright spot as this nomination proves. The final nominee is the biggest star in this category, Gerard Butler stars in yet another Meirad Tako film. The action film, The Smoke in the Red Country. The films plays right into Gerard's wheelhouse. The action sequences are where Gerard shines in this film, giving him every chance to beat up some Russians.

The Best Superhero/Action or Adventure Award is actually the most contested award with only a few votes in it. All nominees are superhero films and only one of them is a sequel to other films. In addition to this two are Marvel and two are DC, sharing the love around with the two biggest comic book companies. The first of the 4 sees the addition of the Green Lanterns to the DC Comics Series. Green Lantern Corps sees Hal Jordan (Tom Cruise), John Stewart (John Boyega) and the other lanterns do battle against the Manhunters and Amon Sur. The pairing of Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie reunite on this particular film and the writing from APJ helps set this apart from previous iterations of the characters. The film was our only billion dollar film this season and is the first to do so since Halo 6 in season 15. The second sees beloved character, The Hulk, grace the big screen. We had already seen She-Hulk with the TV series by Chad Taylor and it was intriguing to see how Mark Newton would tackle the iconic character. Mark Duplass as The Hulk is a great bit of casting and makes for the most believable Bruce Banner the audiences have seen. The direction by Leigh Whannell also adds a bit of horror to the transformation into Hulk form which adds to the character and film quite a bit. The film grossed over 600 million at the box office, which is over 400 mill more than any other solo Hulk movie to date. The only sequel to be nominated here is Justice League Dark, although not a sequel per se it does follow the characters from previous films. Newly beloved characters, made moreso by the LRF films, The Question (Ryan Gosling), Constantine (Colin Farrell), Swamp Thing (Alexander Skarsgard), Zatanna (Aubrey Plaza) and Black Orchid (Gina Rodriguez), team up to fight against the villainous Felix Faust. Directed by J.A Bayona and written by APJ and Jimmy Ellis the film received a 78 critic rating and grossed $807,421,208.The best reviewed film in this category, Namor the Sub-Mariner, reunites John Malone and Alden Ehrenreich. Ehrenreich plays the titular character that seems to be suffering from amnesia. The amnesia angle that this film takes is very interesting in this type of movie and Malone, Ehrenreich, & director JC Chandor should be commended. The surprise cameo from Tom Hanks as Namor's father is amazing and that scene some say carries the drama of the whole film. Marvel and LRF have a hit on their hands with Namor, the film managed an 86 critic rating and grossed $816,919,108.

The next award is the future, The Ledger award is given to the best performance by an actor under the age of 35. Last season we had a tie in this category, however this season, there will only be one winner. The first nominee is already a major star here at LRF, he has won the Best Actor award twice already and has been nominated a further two times in that category alone. All of this only at 31 years of age. Alden Ehrenreich received the call from John Malone to reunite with him on a blockbuster film, Namor the Sub-Mariner. Although not his best performance, Alden still received glowing reviews from critics for his performance here. High School, the story about Sara and Tegan was received fairly well by critics. For the most part the saving grace of the film was the performances by Elle Fanning. "The film is a bit choppy, but Fanning gives a couple of good performances and makes both twins likable even when their actions won't always warrant it." Even when reviewed poorly the critic still managed to say something positive about Elle's performances. At only 22 Elle is the future and the present, she has one win from one nomination in the best actress category for Perfect Blue. Shia LaBeouf has had a good time at the GRA's being nominated once for best actor and twice in supporting actor, he is fast becoming a hot commodity for the studio. Appearing in The Glass Menagerie, LaBeouf, surrounded by other amazing performances carries the film on his shoulders. The play itself was a tough one to crack, but Lon Charles' writing does that and provides LaBeouf with some powerful scenes. Florence Pugh, like Shia has been nominated multiple times fir the GRA's, however she did win for best actress back in Season 14. Pugh appeared in two successful films this year, but the performance that stuck out to people was her comedic one in Pulp. The film from Guy Ritchie, John Malone and Jimmy Ellis offers Pugh's Polly a lot to do in a stacked ensemble cast, she manages to exceed expectations in her first real out and out comedy.

The Last Award that I have to announce the nominees for is Best Drama. The first nominee is actually a non English speaking film. It comes from Indonesia and is written by Meirad Tako, directed by Joko Anwar. Laura Basuki was the standout in this film, but all the actors deserve high praise. It seems like Meirad has wanted to do a native Indonesian film for a while and it shines through. "Director Sam Mendes and writer Lon Charles have brought Tennessee Williams' famed play to life in vivid detail with the help of the cast's flawless performances." this quote from critics sums up this film. The best adaptation of this particular play. The actors are on top of their game, as LaBeouf, Mara, Sarandon and Stan give some of the performances of the season. The Glass Menagerie gained an 83 on metacritic. Suburban, a film written by Alex Conn and Produced by John Malone, stars Colin Firth, although many believe he was miscast. This miscasting was overlooked however as the film still managed a 75 metacritic rating, with a somewhat strong script and Todd Field behind the camera, Suburban was positively reviewed and made a profit at the end of the day. The final film, The King of Hearts, is the story of the first full artificial heart transplant but mainly tells the story of the relationship between Dr. Denton Cooley and Michael DeBakey. The two stars Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks join for the first time, and along with their great work in front of the camera, the work by Bennett Miller and Chad Taylor behind it equals our first film rated over 90 since Ghost Town in Season 10, also written by Taylor.

The next award for the evening is best fantasy/sci-fi. Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn present this award. Refn explains that the winner of this film left him speechless and that all involved should be applauded. The effects used and the raw emotional moments in the film are magnificent. Gosling adds that he is glad that the winner of this award is apart of his family, the DC comics family. They announce at the same time the winner is .... THE SANDMAN. Chad Taylor and Jonathan Glazer come up onto the stage to accept the award together. Quote from Chad Taylor "I'm so happy for our cast and crew for this award. We're all very proud of this film. But above all else, none of us would be here without the genius of Neil Gaiman. A true master of dark fantasy and mythology so it is only fitting that this award his for his work. This one's for you, Neil!"
