Hey guys what you think of a new Gatsby adaptation

I think a change of setting would be necessary for it to really work. The most recent adaptation had possibly the perfect Gatsby in DiCaprio, but the style was all wrong. However, if you kept the book's setting you would just be compared to that film, and your lead would be compared to DiCaprio (most likely unfavorably).
Setting the film in modern day or even further in the past in a unique setting would make the film stand out (while keeping the plot of Fitzgerald's book). Could be modern day NYC or 1980s Miami (instead of making his money bootlegging, Gatsby could have made his money cocaine smuggling - Oscar Issac as that version of Gatsby would be amazing), just something to bring a new style to the proceedings.

The Great Gatsby meets Scarface? That would be awesome...

My idea I was thinking is set the film in high school in modern day. Or in college

I could see a high school setting working since it has a natural built-in class system (nerds, outcasts, jocks, cheerleaders, etc.). I would be curios to see how the character of Gatsby becomes the mysterious figure he is in the book with that setting though. Nick Carraway would be a simple enough translation though - he could be a new kid at the school who just moved to town. Daisy could easily still be his cousin. Really, all the other roles other than Gatsby seem to translate pretty easily: Tom Buchanan is the rich jock, Myrtle is the promiscuous girl from the other side of the tracks sleeping with Tom, George is Myrtle's hothead boyfriend, etc.
High school seems like the better natural setting than a college to me.

The high school setting does seem like a good fit given the hierarchy of a high school is pretty similar to the upper/lower class system in the book.

I was thinking maybe Gatsby could be in college and rich and Daisy could be a senior in high school. In high school Gatsby and Daisy dated like they did in the book but instead of Gatsby going to war he goes to college

As for cast I was thinking either Chalamet or Lucas Hedges for Nick. Bella Thorne for Daisy. Nick Robinson for Tom. Etc

For Gatsby maybe Chalamet or Xavier Dolan for Gatsby. As for directors either Tom Ford, Luca Guadagnino or Xavier Dolan

The 2013 Great Gatsby simply hired the wrong director. Baz Luhrmann's style just didn't work for the material.
I think Gatsby being in college while the others are in high school COULD work, although it's not the most natural translation of the character since he was considered lesser than Buchanan simply because he was new money rather than old money. If you work it out it could still make sense though.

The Great Gatsby in a high school setting sounds interesting (plus most of the high school/teen movies we've released have made a profit...)
