The Nexus and Story of Sade

So I have two contrasting pitches for movies I want to showcase today. I feel like they have the potential to be excellent if handled right, but I want to see what others think before hand.

1. Story of Sade I think would be an adult comedy about a self professed classy individual moving in to a house with four other girls who had severe problems with their lives. Sade tries to solve some of those problems while becoming enamoured with one of them herself. Eventually she make it a mission to help her become a better person.

This is a movie that has Judd Apatow's finger prints all over it if you ask me and since this is an adult comedy, I could see him feeling right at home with it.

2. This other pitch I have is a lot more complex. It would be my attempt at starting a franchise here. I call it The Nexus (no relation to the wrestling stable of the same name). The Nexus is a three part sci-fi/drama/action saga of six misfits who band together to stop Commander Only's conquest to rule the entire galaxy but to overthrow him as ruler of the planet Arda which has been under turmoil since his election into power. There will be twists, turns, shocks and surprises galore along the way and you'll never really know what happens next until the very end.

If I have to describe the series in a nutshell: It's like Star Wars and Game Of Thrones had a baby and this was the end result. I'd be very excited to work on this, though I think it might be too soon to make a franchise yet. No one has seen my first movie here (Happy Nuke Year) yet. But having seen successful franchises made here before gives me hope that this will turn out well.

So those are my ideas for movies, if anyone has any comments or suggestions you're welcome to share with me here whenever you want. Just be warned, I like to write and I like to write a lot.

To be honest, I'm surprised we haven't had an Apatow film here yet. I'm a big fan of his work (I'll defend Funny People til I die) and this sounds right up his alley. Eager to see who you cast in those roles.

Really intrigued by what you have in store for your Nexus films. I love to see ambitious original franchise work here at LRF. Obviously it's tough to plan too far ahead as you don't know how the first film will perform but I say go ahead and build as much of a universe as you want to. That is the experience I had with Scion. And on a related note, I actually pitched Scion to John Malone as Game of Thrones meets Star Wars meets Children of Men, although it evolved into something of its own over time.

I think someone like James Cameron should direct your Nexus movie. Or The Russo Brothers or Joseph Kosinski would be perfect.


I think you should stick to whatever you put in Sade and see how it fits with Apatow.

I think I have an idea as to who will direct the Nexus franchise, i'm split on either Quentin Tarentino or J.J Abrams, though now that I think about it, i'm leaning more towards Quentin because of all the fight scenes that will take place and how in-depth he can make everything look. That said, I could see James Cameron fitting in very well with the atmosphere.

As for Sade, not only is the cast filled out, the script is almost finished as we speak. I'll finish that one up and likely call it a night afterwards.

Now seriously Jacob, on your franchise thing I think it totally depends on you. You can try to start it straight up or you can wait it out.
I suggest wait for your first film to release so you can get some idea what things worked in your favor and what didn't. In the time being check out the database to see past mistakes like Dishonest, Blue Heat and other films that could have started a franchise but were unsuccessful.
