As the community and the caliber of the work on display continues to improve here at Last Resort Film, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for the Golden Reel Awards.
There are a couple of changes I have been considering. The big one would be increasing the number of nominees in each category to four or five (there were a few pretty high profile "snubs" this season). Another would be the addition of a Best Starring Couple category. If you guys have any suggestions or thoughts feel free to post below, or if you think things should stay how they are for now also feel free to post below.

While 3 seems proportionally right for the amount of films released each season, I think four nominees would also work well. And I agree on the Best Starring Couple, as finding the right chemistry for a starring pair is a rewardable effort.

I would definitely rather add a category like Best Starring Couple than add to the number of nominees.

Four nominees could be great. Starring Couple is a great idea.
The lead acting category and best picture category could be split on two, one for small budget films and one for blockbusters. It could increase the amount of nominated films and give films that are not usually recognized in award shows a chance.

I'm not sure certain types of films getting nominations is the issue since there were 15 nominated films in Season 3, so I don't want to drastically change too much.
Right now the two changes I'm leaning towards would be adding Best Starring Couple and maybe allowing more films to be potentially nominated for Best Picture, like how the Academy Awards now nominates how ever many films get enough of a percentage of the votes. That way, if the voting for Best Picture is close in the nominations there could be one or two extra nominees. (If we had done that this season it would have seen Inferno and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow or Silver Surfer (tie, so there would have had to be some sort of tie-breaker or both would get nominations) receive Best Picture nominations.

Official Changes for Season 4 Golden Reel Awards:
Changes to existing categories: Best Picture can now have up to five nominees (if five films reach a specific percentage of votes).
New categories: Best Starring Couple - an award for the best starring pair (romantic or platonic) in a film Best Soundtrack - an award for the film with the best musical soundtrack (it's not too late to submit soundtracks for Season 4 films)
Hopefully these changes will add some additional excitement to the end-of-season proceedings.

I seriously considered having 4 or 5 nominees in each category for this season's awards, but when the nominations poll results starting coming in, there were several categories that didn't even have 5 of the choices with more than one vote (and this nominations poll received a record number of votes). The only category that really would have warranted it would have been Best Actor which had 6 actors within 4 votes of each other (the three nominees, plus Matthew McConaughey for True West, Eric Stonestreet for The Life of the Party and Robert De Niro for Cosa Nostra. Not even Best Picture was close enough in voting to warrant additional nominees (which was possible based on the award changes listed above, but Cosa Nostra, the next possible nominee did not get the minimum voting percentage to stretch the Best Picture ballot).
I will be paying close attention to next season's nomination poll numbers to see if additional nominees in (all) the acting categories become necessary.

Golden Reel For your consideration for Season 7 has been messaged to me. In one category I have asked admin to make an exception, Would like to know your opinion on this.
The Category is 'Best Couple" and I have asked the admin to include all the three leads of Numero Uno in that category as Thruple. I wanted to know whether you all will think is it fair or right.

I think that the nomination for best couple should have more of an understanding. I'm saying that I agree with Jack Ryder saying that if group of people are basically the ones carrying the story forward they should all be nominated.
But only to an extent and there should be limitations to this.

That's the reason there's a Best Ensemble Cast award, HG, To honor the larger group of a cast. Whether the exception will be made may not be revealed until the release of the nominations poll, but I will be looking at the reaction and taking it under advisement.

I think the "best couple" award should have two people. For the group of the cast there is a "Best Ensemble Cast" award.

I've been thinking about this and I think I have a hot take: I actually liked how Awards Season slowed down and took place over a full week this time around. It not only felt like a chance to catch your breath between seasons but it also made the anticipation for the GRAs build up even more (and the Awards Season more special as a result) And since it had three spaced-out components (Noms, Roundup, Awards), it's not like there was ever a lack of content.
That being said, it also made me incredibly anxious so I'm totally cool with things going back to normal when the Season 9 GRAs come around. Just saying, the change of pace actually felt right, in a way.

I have mixed feelings about it.
On one end, I feel the same way as Chad, that it builds anticipation and makes it feel special. It also gives me more time to update the database, but that's a whole other thing.
On the other end, I'm just too excited for the next season to start. We all have exciting projects coming up and I was just eager to know what you all had in store. It also caught me off guard because it was the first time that it happened and I kept wondering if something happened, if something was wrong, haha. I wouldn't mind keeping this format though.

The Awards Season lasting the time it did was not really intentional, but I think it worked out well. Preparing the awards (the voting polls, plus the presentation of the awards) is pretty time consuming. I only have so much free time these days (I work 7 days a week), so that's why it ended up being as drawn out. It will probably stay that way for my sake. Maybe next season there will be an additional article or something squeezed in there, maybe a special season end box office edition of The Numbers (don't want to step on any Prestige Magazine toes though). If anyone has an article idea, I'm listening. That way the awards season is still a little drawn out, but there would be some extra content during the break.
