Yeah that’s what I was asking, can such a dark story be told on screen, or will it turn too many people away I mean most of the worthwhile material is challenging. I mean artists like Lars van Trier made a career doing it. Even Ari Aster did so with Beau Is Afraid. You can always control how dark it gets to where you can let your audience do the work for you. As long as you retain the overall aim/goal you are going for, you should go for it if you want to do it. Never such a thing as a bad idea just bad execution. |

I just got done watching 1980s THE CHANGELING and was wondering if a new take on it starring Brad Pitt with more frightening & tense scares.
What do you think? Is it possible?

Films like that are the sorts that I actually like seeing remade - films with a solid hook or story but have some issues (in the case of The Changeling it probably wasn't as tense or scary as the story should dictate). Go for it.

I was rewatching Mean Girls and I think I would love to do a remake that’s way more darkly comic and satirical. Imagine Election mixed with Mean Girls.

Mean Girls is not something that would eligible to remade in LRF at this time (specifically because it was just remade, albeit in musical form).

But Mean Girls isn't a dark story in nature. Sounds like you really want to do Heathers.

If I did it though the humor wouldn’t be like dark in the Heathers way with murder and everything. The humor would be probably along the same vibe as Election which is one of my favorite films.

Mean Girls is basically just a more family friendly version of Heathers to begin with (so really just minus everything the Christian Slater character brings into the picture). You should just do your own things or find a more obscure property (so probably older and not already adapted into multiple other forms and remakes).

I think it might be a good idea for you to make your own version of Heathers or Mean Girls, cause I do think the premise of a modern day version of either movie could work, especially given how much society has changed since both films were released. If handled right, I think it could make for a fantastic film. |

That’s what I think I’m going to do. I have a few ideas. Like having the queen bee popular girl character be a closet lesbian and it similar to a film like Election has multiple perspectives. Another character I came up with is this new principal who is trying to end the female on female bullying.
