I'd be quicker to blame "Director Power" than "Star Power" here. Steven S. DeKnight doesn't have it. He's made one movie - a critical and financial flop that derailed a hopeful franchise (Pacific Rim Uprising). Films like Avatar and Transformers didn't have much if any star power, but they had director power and sometimes with films like these that can be just as important if not more so.

Looks like I have to self fund the sequel. Self fund? Brother, you're gonna need a whole fundraiser to even have a chance at a sequel. Over a hundred million dollars lost...yikes. |

Yeah my star power comment included him too, we picked him as director just a few months after the release of Pacific Rim 2, on the basis of his work on Spartacus and Daredevil and were hoping he bounces back but tough luck he faltered and went on to make Jupiter's Legacy. Neil Blomkamp was the other director in the final two shortlist. |

I’m honestly curious how do you as a writer make sure to appreciate the cinematic qualities of your work and others beyond just another piece of creative writing. Sorry if this is a confusing question but I’m honestly curious.

I was blown away by Idris' performance. Dare I day best actor frontrunner. For the film overall, I found it was adapted to screen quite well.
