Nope, I feel pretty comfortable with anything (good or bad) said in reviews or reception for my films. In my opinion, it's not really the author's job to determine how something should be "understood" - that is going to mean very different things to all of us as we come from all over the world. Art is great because everyone can bring their unique vantage point to it and it can develop different meanings ("death of the author" and so on).

I always am someone who tries to look at critical reception and I try to use it to make my films better. I think recently critical reception has been better for my films, Nearly all my films have gotten I feel appropriate treatment from critics. Theater Kids I feel was not treated appropriately by critics. I’m not mad I just feel the reviews didn’t get it. The film I don’t know where anyone got pretentious from except for the ambiguous ending it’s a pretty conventional crowdpleaser. I wrote it in some ways to write a conventional but good movie. Also what’s wrong with the characters I don’t see why any of the characters are unlikable they’re just people trying to chase their dream especially the main character Jenna. I do agree okn this I wish I didn’t market it as a comedy. I do think there are plenty of reasons to hate Theater Kids I just don’t understand these. The Host is kind of another one but I completely understand the reasons some critics did not like it. It is still one of my favorite films I’ve ever written and I think there are people who love The Host. Does any other writers have movies where you feel the critics didn’t understand or you didn’t agree with the reception. .
I don't think you understand the time, effort and consideration that the critics (myself included) put into each and every review. Speaking for just for myself, by the time things are all said and done, I read each pitch about a dozen times between cast/crew decisions, making the poster, reviewing the film, etc. The other critic that has made himself known, Critic Jeff Stockton, reads each and every film at least a handful of times. If you are unhappy with a review, fine, but you should channel that energy into not making the same mistakes again on other films rather than complaining on the board. Your taste or intentions are not going to always line up with what the critics like and how they respond to your work. There's nothing that can be done about that, but I think you are discounting the amount of thought and work that goes into things behind the scenes.

I honestly don’t mean any disrespect. I hope you will forgive me. I’m not angry. Like I said I have tremendous respect for critics I just believe that in Theater Kids I honestly had a disagreement. I’m sorry I probably shouldn’t have posted anything.
